God's perspective is a good place to start. Matthew 6:33 TPT says so above all, constantly seek God's kingdom and his righteousness, then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.
Have you ever looked at quotes on balance?
Here's a few:
Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving. Albert Einstein
Life is about balance. Be kind but don't let people abuse you. Trust, but don't be deceived. Be content but don't stop improving yourself. Zig Ziglar
Life is balance of holding on and letting go. Rumi
The key to finding a happy balance in modern life is simplicity. Sogyal Rinpoche
And one more for good measure-
There is no balance, only all or nothing. David Choe
That's just a few perspectives on the subject.
Balance can mean quite a few things. Riding a bike or staying on a balance beam in gymnastics relate to stability. Comparison for work and home life is about proportions. There's a steady type of balance, like balancing a baby on your knee or the server with 5 plates of food lined up the arm. Or how about literal weighing and measuring balance of items for cost? Oh, balancing the checkbook or Quickbooks!
Recently, while reading a book about the lost art of reading the signs in nature, I learned that if you want to remain balanced such as crossing over a stream on a log, if you look at the moving stream below, it's virtually impossible to stay on the log. Focus on something stable.
This is the processing piece of balance. I like it. It's about perspective and focus.
I absolutely love as an example of this is Topsy (played by Meryl Streep) in Mary Poppins. Every second Wednesday of the month her world literally turns upside down. What's the response to this? The answer is to turn upside down with it!
Here's a few spiritual ideas on the subject.
Matthew 7:12 In everything you do, be careful to treat others in the same way you’d want them to treat you.
2 Timothy 2:5-6 An athlete who doesn’t play by the rules will never receive the trophy, so remain faithful to God! The farmer who labors to produce a crop should be the first one to be fed from its harvest.
John 7:24 Stop judging based on the superficial. First you must embrace the standards of mercy and truth.
Luke 9:23 Jesus said to all of his followers, “If you truly desire to be my disciple, you must disown your life completely, embrace my ‘cross’ as your own, and surrender to my ways.
Acts 10:34 Peter said, “Now I know for certain that God doesn’t show favoritism with people but treats everyone on the same basis.
Food for thought:
Sometimes balance is weighed between control and surrender. If we have one thing on which to focus, that remains stable, our opening verse says that God and seeking him is our constant.
And to sum up, this quote was thought provoking about God:
God maintains a delicate balance between keeping his existence sufficiently evident so people will know he's there and yet hiding his presence enough so that people who want to choose to ignore him can do it. This way, their choice of destiny is really free. J.P. Moreland
We pray that you find the 'balance' in a full surrender to knowing who he is and what he has for you, that you may receive the fullness of his measure and not a half portion.
Totally balanced,
KTWL
